“Spain must accompany healthcare innovation with improvements in its industrial base”
Roberto García Navalmoral is the CEO and President of Meiji Pharma Spain, a Japanese company with a significant presence in our country. From its headquarters in Alcalá de Henares, the company exports medicines worldwide and also manufactures products for multinational pharmaceutical companies. In this interview with Redacción Médica, he outlines the three major challenges ahead: adapting to new changes (sustainability, artificial intelligence, legislation, etc.), continuing to develop products for patients, and maintaining competitiveness. He also emphasises the need to improve access times to medicines in Spain. For García Navalmoral, this is an “area for improvement”, for which he puts forward specific proposals. He also highlights that leadership in R&D must be complemented by improvements in the industrial base. “If we focus solely on innovation without a solid industrial foundation, in the long term, innovation could be at risk, and investment may decrease”.
